How to Hear God Speak Through the Bible
- Set aside a suitable time each day to do a daily ‘devotion’ where you can make time to hear from God. The best time is when you are at your best, whether this is in the morning or at night. But, remember, consistent habits produce consistent results!
- You will need:
Journal - To write notes about what God has said to you
Pen - To write out your devotion
Reading Plan - This booklet
Notepad or diary - Jot down anything that distracts you during your devotion
Time - Allocate increasing amounts as your habit develops
- Open with a word of prayer. Ask God to speak to you today through the verses you read.
- Read the allocated passages, but only focus on as much as you can manage that day. Don’t feel guilty if you can’t get through it all.
- Keep an index in the front of your journal to record the date, the verse and the topic for future reference.
SCRIPTURE - Write the specific verse out in full.
OBSERVATION - Write a sentence or two describing the context or specific points of interest. What is
the verse saying in general?
APPLICATION - What can you do to apply this verse to your life? Write a sentence or two with specific
action points.
PRAYER - Write a prayer of response to God based on what you are committing to do.
6. Pray for other needs too, but include some praise and thanksgiving.
7. Review your devotions weekly to check your application progress and any answers to prayer.
