Nearly 20% of 2011 has already rolled on by and the challenge is ever before us - will we possess the land like the children of Israel under the leadership of Joshua?
As the Jewish nation was promised a ‘land flowing with milk and honey’ they had to fight to gain their inheritance and if it was given to them by Lot then Caleb in Josh 14:8-15 said to Joshua from the latter part of verse 8, “But I wholly followed the Lord my God. 9So Moses swore on that day saying surely the Land where your foot has trodden shall be your inheritance and your children’s forever because you have wholly followed the Lord my God. If we keep reading from verse 13 we see the following: 13And Joshua blessed him, and gave Hebron to Caleb the son of Jephunneh as an inheritance. 14Hebron therefore became the inheritance of Caleb the son of Jephunneh because he wholly followed the Lord God of Israel.
There is something very powerful in these verses from 4:8-15 in being obedient fully to the Lord your God the inheritance was “a mountain”.
Today we fight not with weapons that are carnal, but spiritual weapons that are mighty in God for pulling down strongholds (i.e.unbelief, blindness, stubbornness) and claiming the nation as our inheritance (Ps 2:8) and we will have to fight to gain the inheritance promised in prayer and intercession storming the throne of grace for help in our time of need, to see people saved and made disciples for our Lord Jesus Christ, where we have the privilege of seeing in the knowledge and grace of the Saviour (2 Pet 1:3-11)
